(female) I have had an extremely itchy and bright red scalp for about 5 months. Now recently, it burns too. My hair is falling out. Looking back on pictures, I have about half the hair volume that I used to 2 years ago. My scalp is extremely oily also. I am a natural red-head, but now my hair is almost blonde in color and very brittle. I haven’t colored my hair at all. What could it be? I had blood tests done and they were all ok. I’m desperate for some answers! Please give me an idea and will my hair grow back?
There is no crystal ball. I can not tell you what is happening to you without examining you. If you are out of the California area, see a good dermatologist for an evaluation. There is no substitute for a good doctor and a one-on-one assessment in person. If you are in California (or are planning a trip out here), I have offices in Los Angeles, San Jose, and Newport Beach, and would be happy to provide a free consultation.

I am 63 yrs old.I need help with my scalp.I have been to the dr. and had a biopsy done. This is what is wrong:My scalp is sore, throbs, intense itching{gets into my ears}and is very red and inflamed. The dr. said she could give me medicine and did but it cost $300. and did not cure it. I can’t spend a fortune on medicine. We are on disability. My life is highly stressful and depressing. I take klonapin for anxiety.I have been diganosed with cronic fatigue syn.But all that aside I need help as this is driving me crazy.I do not color or perm.I wash with tea tree oil shampoo every 3 days but it only puts a band aid on the real problem.I am miserable. If you can suggest something, anything -I would be so grateful thank you,sue lee
Sounds like yeast infection systemically. Eat only fresh food, no bread, no sugar,no liquor, no carbs (pasta) Eat plain yogurt, three times a day, wash with selsen blue, hair and skin 2X’s week, lots of water, acidophilious, get nystatin or diflucan. Tool late for me but good luck to you. Doc gave me steriods, then doxyclicine, then diflucan, biopsy showed hair loss that’s it, the minician. Then I got cystitus and Cipro. I am a mess. Doubt my beautiful (Cindy Crawford type) hair will grow back. I am so angry at my pompus, uncaring doc. So diflucan first as antibiotic makes it worse. Wonder if Dr. Rasmussen has any comments on this?
I can’t believe how much your case is similar to mine! I’ve had EXACTLY the same problem for like a year now; my scalp is so so itchy and my hair is falling of systematically and the color of my hair has changed dramatically to yellow. The only difference is that I am male (22 yo). I visited a doctor and said that I have psoriasis, she gave me a couple of medicine to buy but I couldn’t afford the price so I just forgot about it.. but now the itch and hair loss spread to my face (cheeks, eyebrows and eyelashes) which is really freaking me out. Anyway, if you can afford buying medicine DO IT and don’t hesitate lest you’ll end up almost bald and all itchy like myself.
