My daughter is 17 yrs. old. She has a 2nd degree burn to her scalp from a chemical. She had highlights done at a local beauty salon and she was burned. She now has a hypertrophic scar. Will cortisone shots to the scalp help? Her hair follicles are completely burned.
If it is a 2nd degree chemical burn, I doubt the hair will grow back normally (if at all) and the cortisone shots will probably not help the hypertrophic scar at this stage. It is very difficult to give an opinion without seeing her. Fortunately, there are many options to treat her, including scar reduction surgery or even hair transplants, which work quite well in many cases. Consider sending us photographs — in the photos include a ruler so that the size of the defect is clear.
In the last two weeks, I have seen three patients with similar problems. We have offices in San Jose, Los Angeles, and Newport Beach, California. You can always schedule a free consultation for an evaluation by calling 800-NEW-HAIR.

I am 15 years old and I have two little bald spots resulting from a relaxer. The woman who did the relaxer was not a professional and she did not rinse the relaxer completely out. This happend around 5 or 6 years ago. I have not yet seen a doctor. I NO longer use those type of chemicals in my hair. I have very long pretty hair pretty hair but those two little spots still bother me. PLEASE tell me something that will help or what you think a doctor may suggest. THANK-YOU
I live in Australia and approximately 3-4 years ago, I suffered a scalp burn from hair bleach used by professional hairdresser. I felt it burn within 5 minutes of the “foils” being placed in my hair - the hair salon were using cling (plastic) wrap instead of foil so they could get closer to the scalp for “better results” and I believe they made the bleach too strong. It burned, scabbed and ulcerated, resulting in a year of treatment including cortisone injections and leaving a permanent scar (with no hair) the size of a 20cent piece on my crown. I have had to undergo a 2 scalp repair (skin flap) surgeries to remove the bald patch and have one more to go in 4 weeks time - Some beauticians and hairdressers just get too relaxed about things nowadays and don’t do spot testing like they should be doing. I wish you all the luck.
I had my hair hightlighted 3 days ago, with foil. I’ve had this procedure done many times in the past and everything has always been fine. I went to a new hairdresser this time. He used foil as usual with powder bleach and 30 volume peroxide as usual. He started in the back of my head and by the time he was ready to start the front the foils had heated up to the point they were burning my scalp. The foils were so hot he could not touch them and had to run and get a hot towel to remove them. I think he had too much product and too much hair in each foil. Needless to say my scalp is burnt swollen and oozing. I’m not sure if the chemical burnt my head or if it was the foil. My hair is not burnt or falling out but I’m really concerned about my scalp. How should I treat it?
Hey
I had a similar situation. Where I went to my hair stylist who bleached it and used dye. Then my hair started falling out in massive chunks. a year and half later it has stopped and the areas that have stayed intact have become frizzy and after treating it 2 times a week it has improved ever so slowly. My hair is growing back healthy. So its a waiting game from hair.
Worst part is I told her I had extremely sensitive this hair and she examined it and said it will be fine then never accepted responsibility for it. apparently calls herself an expert…
There is a really good range of natural products from Trilogy worked wonders for me.
Good Luck Ladies I share your pain.
Hey…
