Hello!
I have seen many dicussions related to Diffuse Alopecia or DUPA, but I have never understood the causes. Is it genetic hair loss expressed in a diffuse pattern, or is it a kind of disease caused from something else?Thanks a lot for your time!
Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) is a condition where the hair has miniaturization throughout the scalp without a particular pattern to it. Women who have genetic hair loss have something that acts and looks like the male patient with DUPA. It is generally believed that in men, DUPA is genetic and hormonal. At times, it will respond to Propecia (finasteride 1mg) in slowing down its advancement and in about half of male patients it does get better (slightly) with Propecia.

Hi,
I would like to ask if DUPA can happen in a female that did not have typical female pattern alopecia, but chronic shedding for almost 3 years with only visibe loss above ears and lower nape. It never showed wide parts or top loss not even in back just thinning in the above mentioned areas.
Also not any minituration hairs were all normal then have a sudden loss with wide parts, loss all over scalp and temple recession. I have searched online and cant even find a picture of the hairloss I have. I wish there was a medical reason but my bloodwork is normal except for eleveted androgens but why would it take 3 years of mimimal loss with regrowth that i could see and feel like a crewcut on top of head to such a sudden drastic unsightly loss.
Thank you for any info you can provide I have been on decadron for 3 years and was told it must have stopped working, dx was androgen meditated hairloss.
