Hello,

I am a 29 year old male with slight frontal recession at the temple, sort of a typical Norwood pattern. I still have a lot of very thick hair, and the woman who cuts my hair recently commented on my thick hair shaft. But the first half inch or so of my frontal hairline feels thinner than the rest, which is really full and thick. It’s not visibly balding, but I’m wondering whether this is just normal “hairline maturation” or whether it is MPB. Is there any way to tell the difference? Should I seek medical attention? My hairline has been the same for about three years.

I recently saw a 28 year old patient with the same problem. What you are likely experiencing is the hairline maturation process and not male pattern baldness (MPB). Furthermore, it is normal to have some miniaturization or thinning in the very front edge of your hairline. See the post from last Friday, Maturization of a Hairline — Moving From Juvenile to Mature (with Photos), for the best example of what you are talking about.
