I’m 25yrs old and have taken Propecia for 2 weeks before I noticed a severe drop in my libido. I have been off it for a week and it appears to be the same. How long does it take to run its course and exit your system? Is there any chance this is permanent like horror stories on the internet?
It leaves your blood stream in about a day or two. There is some tissue fixation which might last for up to a month (wild guess), but I would expect that everything should go back to normal well before a month. You should consult with the doctor who prescribed the medication for you.
I started taking Propecia at the age of 24. I noticed a complete loss of libido after a few days on the drug. My physician was Dr. Bernstein, a colleague of Dr. Rassman. Dr. Bernstein recommended I stop taking Propecia until my libido returned, then use a lower dosage and progressively increase the amount as I felt comfortable. It took only a few days for my libido to return to normal. I then took 1/4 of a pill for about a week, then moved up to a half pill for about 3 weeks. After that I took 3/4 a pill for about a month. Finally, I moved back to the full dose with no ill effects. It took about 2 months to work myself back up to the full dose, but I’m glad I stuck with it. I definitely think it has helped me.

I’m 40 and I had the same exact thing happen to me. Dr. Bernstein was my doctor also. I was 37 at the time. Over three years later, my libido has still not returned. I was only on the Propecia for one week. The worst decision of my life, and it doesn’t get any easier. My life is a nightmare thanks to Propecia and people like Dr. B.
Of course, I’ve heard all the “it’s in your head” nonsense. My T and DHT levels are in the toilet, as well. I don’t know why it only effects some men in this way, but it does. I’m glad you were able to get back to normal. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.
