Dear Doctors,
first of all I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your wonderful team for your help. I have a question which I hope you can help me with.I have been on Propecia for 5 months, but I have not seen much effects. I suspect this is due to my extra high levels of testosterone. My amount of ejaculate is higher than normal, something like adult film standards or even more. This has been told to me by my partners. So in order to tame my high level of testosterone, should I embark on taking 2 1mg pills of Propecia a day rather than just 1? I’m just afraid the Propecia is not able to work properly on me.

I have rarely had increases in ejaculate due to Propecia reported to me. This drug should not be used to control the ejaculate and you should stick to the recommended dose of 1mg.

Taking more finasteride will not tame your testosterone.
Finasteride does not directly lower testosterone levels. Finasteride blocks the enzyme that converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is approximately 3 times more potent as an androgen and implicated in hair loss.
Subsequently this blocking can actually lead to increased levels of certain forms of testosterone in some people (which is not as problematic to hair). It is the enzyme that facilitates hair loss due to this “potency” conversion and inhibiting this reduces the potent bald inducing DHT. People with a genetic deficiency of this enzyme don’t go bald.
What I’ve seen in certain studies is not only is the effect of finasteride above 1mg in hair loss negligible but also the overall reduction in DHT is not greatly different.
Be patient, it takes time and don’t waste your money on extra finasteride that won’t make much of a difference.
