8 months ago I was at Dr. Bernstein and under miniaturization he said I have MPB. Right now I’m a NW2 but with early frontal hair loss. And I’m 22 1/2 years old. I been on Propecia daily for 8 months and everything is about the same. I keep reading that you should see all of your results by 8 months! I called Dr. Bernstein today and asked him if what I see are my final results and he said I gotta wait a full year and it may even take up to 2 years to see the full benefits. This is exciting to know but why do you always says 8 months is the optimal time for full results!?
I tell patients not to expect results from Propecia for 8 months, but suggest a 1-2 year waiting time for maximum results. Merck (Propecia’s maker) has a chart that shows when to expect results, though they show that by month 3 you could get some slowing of the hair loss. See Propeca.com for more.

I think it can take up to 2 years because your normal hair cycle can be 2-6 years. Hairs affected by mpb tend have shorter cycles, which would explain the reason that some men see results so early. An unhealthy hair might have very short cycle, shed quickly then re-grow healthier. But if you are early in the mpb stages, the hair may still be healthy enough to grow to a good length and have a cycle similar to the rest of your healthy hair. I think this is what’s happening in my case because my hair had thinned and reduced in volume, but I could grow it as long as before. And at a almost a year, I’m just now seeing a great reduction in shedding and overall increase in volume. My left side is at least 50% less dense then my right side. The hair on my left is healthy enough to grow at about the same rate as my right side, just the density is less.
Correct me if im wrong on any of this Dr. Rassman.
So after 8 months, the hair may not shed and be replaced by a healthier hair. YouTube has a Propecia ad with twins. The one twin started treatment early, the other started later. The ad showed the later starting twin 4 years later. They didn’t say when the earlier starting twin began treatment. But they have a scene with them together before the later starting twin began treatment. And the early starting twin had a lot more hair at that time which is supposedly 4 years before the later twin started treatment
Stick to the propecia.
I am a 37 yr old male who has been on propecia for 15 months, also using Minoxidil 5% twice daily and threw 2% Nizoral into the mix recently.
The minoxidil has limited regrowth potential. I know this as I tried it exclusively on and off over the years prior to finally making the effort to take propecia. Best decision yet to fight baldness.
The results have been pleasing as my hair was so fine (miniaturized) on top, I pretty much looked completely bald. Believe the Nizoral has been a very good addition and the condition of my hair is continuing to improve. The bald patch has reduced quite significantly and this is noticeable to friends. Results took around 8 too kick in.
I am sure anyone in their 20s would have much better results.
