Hi Dr. Rassman I know that certain high Cholesterol medicines can cause hair loss do you know of any that do not have this as a side effect
Most statins (class of drugs that lower cholesterol levels) have hair loss as a known side effect. I can’t think of any specifically that don’t have some risk of hair loss. Anyone got any ideas?

Prescription Niaspan doesn’t cause hair loss. It is a high dosage of slow release prescription Niacin. It does give you a heavy duty FLUSH but you will get used to it and it only last about an hour. Take at bedtime and I sleep though it 90% of the time.
Why do the statins cause side effects like hair loss? I am afraid of using them now.
